Tuesday I avoided the rain by attending the lock-in for kindergarten through second graders at the Fayetteville Public Library. It was a fun shoot, but I was strained by choosing where to photograph from in order to get the best light. The room was flooded with light from windows on the north side of the building. While that is usually great, the best location to position myself while shooting the kids would put me photographing into the windows and thus, either underexposing the kids or allowing light to bleed all over the image. To compensate, I had to pull out a flash and bounce it off the ceiling in order to balance the light. I prefer to shoot without flash when I can so I don’t miss a shot because the light doesn’t fire, but in this situation I had to do what I needed to in order to be more mobile around the room.
