Today I was assigned to photograph the Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks‘ 2012 Highway 71 Classic bike ride in Fayetteville. One of the problems I always seem to have with bike rides and races is getting in front of the pack to get photos. I am not a cyclists so I always seem to underestimate just how fast these people are able to ride. Today’s ride took them from South Fayetteville to either the community of Brentwood and back (35 miles), or to Winslow and back (75 miles). Luckily, I woke up bright and early and was able to get out in front of most of the riders. It still amazes me just how fast they go and I can not imagine riding that far. When I caught up to some of the riders at the rest area in Brentwood, they all seemed to be in good spirits and were not huffing and puffing like I would be from just looking at a bike.
The ride is an annual event that raises money for the Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks’ education and advocacy programs throughout the region. For more information on the coalition, to find out how you can help, or find a ride to participate in, visit the BCO’s website.
Here are a few photos of the event.
