Tyson Invitational Day 2

The Razorbacks hosted the Razorback Invitational at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center in Fayetteville. The meet featured teams from around the country as well as several world-class professional athletes who competed for the opportunity to race for practice.

One of those professional athletes present was former Woodland Junior High, Fayetteville High and University of Arkansas sprinter Wallace Spearmon. I’ve covered Spearmon for years and call him a friend. It’s always good to see him and I always get a very kind greeting from him, even when he’s really busy. Watching him compete at the Olympics still blows my mind when I think that I’ve known him since he was a little kid.

Heymsfield is a former Elkins Elk who I saw, while she was in high school, dominate the field of a small-school cross country meet while running most of the race with one shoe. One shoe. She is an amazingly impressive person who is impossible to dislike. It’s such a pleasure to see her succeed at such a high level.
