Rogers Dog Show

I don’t have a dog. It’s very upsetting to me. I’ve always lived in apartments that don’t allow pets and I don’t have to time to give an animal all the attention it needs. Thus, I need a dog fix at least once a month. This assignment fulfilled that need.

Local residents show off their dogs Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, during the 3rd annual City of Rogers Dog Show at the Frisco Main Stage in downtown Rogers. The show featured nine different categories of competition and an overall “Best in Show.” Proceeds from the show benefit the City of Rogers Animal Shelter.

Some of these dogs were just TOO CUTE (with or without costumes). It was great to see the variety of dogs in the community. From two-pound Malteses to humongous Great Danes, this dog show had them all. Even got so see some of my favorite – English Bulldogs and Shar Peis (apparently I love “ugly” dogs). I really wanted to do portraits of all the dogs in costume…maybe an idea for next year?!

I'm originally from Colorado and I was introduced to photojournalism in high school while working on the school's yearbook. In 2011, I graduated from Colorado State University with degrees in journalism and art. This is my first “real-world” job, but while in college I worked for CSU's daily student newspaper and I interned for Denver-based Westword, the Colorado Eagles (ACHL hockey team) and Johnson and Wales University. I cherish analog photography and I like to shoot on a medium-format Mamyia RB67 whenever I can. While I'm not at work, I enjoy doing all sorts of physical activities, especially mud runs and Crossfit, and I love to bake desserts (which are usually consumed by my coworkers).
