Huntsville at Shiloh Volleyball

It was senior night for the Lady Saints Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, as they took on the Lady Eagles from Huntsville. The Lady Saints swept the Lady Eagles in three sets.

It was nice to shoot in a different gym, especially one that has different levels for me to play with. It was also great to be able to photograph a left-handed hitter (Shiloh’s Brittany Butler). Since most hitters are right-handed, I get a lot of shots with their arms’ covering their face, depending of course on where I’m set up. Unfortunately, one player I was asked to photograph for a feature later on in the week, I could not get the timing down with. I spent a lot of the game trying to get a shot of her without her arm covering her face and the ball in the frame, but it was hard for me to sync up to her timing. All part of the photography game, I guess!

I'm originally from Colorado and I was introduced to photojournalism in high school while working on the school's yearbook. In 2011, I graduated from Colorado State University with degrees in journalism and art. This is my first “real-world” job, but while in college I worked for CSU's daily student newspaper and I interned for Denver-based Westword, the Colorado Eagles (ACHL hockey team) and Johnson and Wales University. I cherish analog photography and I like to shoot on a medium-format Mamyia RB67 whenever I can. While I'm not at work, I enjoy doing all sorts of physical activities, especially mud runs and Crossfit, and I love to bake desserts (which are usually consumed by my coworkers).
