The Last of the Arkansas Honor Flights

The Arkansas Honor Flight came to a close Saturday, May 3, 2014 after 11 flights and over  900 veterans visited the Washington DC World War II Memorial.

The national nonprofit organization Honor Flight Network was started in 2005 and created state based Hubs to help veterans visit the WWII memorial. In 2009 Bill McKenzie of Tyson Foods helped start the Arkansas hub with sponsorships from Tyson Foods and Walmart , and the late addition of the Arkansas Electric Co-ops.

I had a chance to follow over 80 veterans on their trip and to see the people that came out to show such great support and appreciation for their service. At the end of the 13 hour trip the best part was seeing all the people waiting at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport to surprise and welcome the veterans home. It makes me very proud of our state and those that live here.
