SDIA 2014 Heroes WOD

Sheep Dog Impact Assistance hosted the 2014 Heroes WOD (workout of the day) at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale. The competition is a Crossfit-based workout consisting for three stations where competitors could do the workout “RX,” as prescribed, or scaled:

1st Station – 21-15-9 reps
Overhead squats
KB swing
Box jumps (M24″/W20″)

Run 800m

2nd Station – 15-10-5 reps
Sand bag squat clean
Walking lunges w/plate overhead (M45#/W25#) (2x50m)

Run 800m

3rd Station – 21-15-9 reps
Slamball sit ups (M25#/W20#)
Hanging power snatch
Partner fireman carry (2x50m)

The event also featured retired Marine Cpl. Nick Perales. Perales was injured in Feb. 2011 when he stepped on and IED while serving in Afghanistan. He suffered several wounds, shattering his hand, hip, ankle and a amputation on his right leg. It was truly amazing to see him in this WOD and get to talk to him! Such an inspiration!

I'm originally from Colorado and I was introduced to photojournalism in high school while working on the school's yearbook. In 2011, I graduated from Colorado State University with degrees in journalism and art. This is my first “real-world” job, but while in college I worked for CSU's daily student newspaper and I interned for Denver-based Westword, the Colorado Eagles (ACHL hockey team) and Johnson and Wales University. I cherish analog photography and I like to shoot on a medium-format Mamyia RB67 whenever I can. While I'm not at work, I enjoy doing all sorts of physical activities, especially mud runs and Crossfit, and I love to bake desserts (which are usually consumed by my coworkers).
