On a cool, clear February afternoon, with the lingering smells of grilled burgers, kettle corn other concession goodies floating through the air, the distant and familiar sounds of the crack of the bat and the smack of a ball finding its way inside a freshly oiled glove filled the air around a cool Baum stadium Friday afternoon as the number 1 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks kicked off the first game of their season by hosting the Western Illinois leathernecks in front of a crowd of 4,734. The Razorbacks won the first game of a three game series 9-1. Read more about game one here.

Cedarville High School hosted round 1 of the boys and girls 3A Region 1 Tournament. The game looked like it was going to be a tight game until the finish during the first half. The Lady Pirates of Greenland High School and Lady Warriors of Lamar High School kept the game close during the first half when I was shooting, neither team leading the other by more than a few points. The lead would constantly flip from one team to another. However, in the second half, the Lady Pirates stepped up their game to win 55-38.

The 4A North Regional Tournament kicked off today at Ozark High School in Ozark, Ark. This venue is a great place to hold a tournament because the gym is by far one of the nicest I’ve ever seen – and that includes collegiate gyms.
The Lizards took off fast creating quite the deficit in the first quarter, but the Lions of Gravette eventually battled back. By the end of the game, a 3-point shot by Terence Pierce of Gravette High School tied the game, pushing it into overtime where the Lions eventually won, 62-61.
A hard-fought game is always great, especially nail biters, because the crowd becomes so animated and wild. With 51 seconds left in the fourth quarter I brought my gear back out to shoot the crowd’s reaction. I had a great time shooting their reactions and feeling their energy pour over the gym. Kudos to the tens of kids who made the drive from Gravette to support their team!
