The Razorbacks had an uphill battle today after losing their home opener yesterday to Ole Miss. Good news is: the Hogs not only won, but they crushed Ole Miss, 10-1. Some solid pitching by Randall Fant and some hot bats from the rest of the team kept the team scoring. I personally enjoyed the high-scoring game because there are more opportunities for defensive shots. The cherry on top of my day was probably a shot I got in the eighth inning of the game. Photographs of pitchers can all look the same after awhile, so I was very excited to get this very odd shot of Jalen Beeks. It’s not every day you see a guy who has two forearms coming out of his elbow!

On a cool, clear February afternoon, with the lingering smells of grilled burgers, kettle corn other concession goodies floating through the air, the distant and familiar sounds of the crack of the bat and the smack of a ball finding its way inside a freshly oiled glove filled the air around a cool Baum stadium Friday afternoon as the number 1 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks kicked off the first game of their season by hosting the Western Illinois leathernecks in front of a crowd of 4,734. The Razorbacks won the first game of a three game series 9-1. Read more about game one here.
Cross-town rival Springdale High School hosted Springdale Har-Ber High School Friday, May 4, 2012 at Tyson Sports Complex in Springdale.
Right off the bat (pun intended!), I noticed some aggressive base running by Springdale – there were some players who seemed to be instantly and permanently caked in a layer of dirt. The loose dirt made for some dramatic imagery too! A brief storm rolled by with thunder that delayed the game for about an hour, but it eventually passed and the players resumed play, this time with the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth.
I was definitely impressed by the offense of both teams. A number of players got some nice shots up the middle, dropping the ball in an unmanageable spot. I couldn’t stay for the finish, but it looked like Har-Ber was determined to take this game.

I’m so excited its baseball season again! Partially because I grew up playing the game, and partially because I don’t have to worry about light as much as other sports because the games are played pretty early! It was a great game and I was sad I had to leave after the fourth inning.
I was having an “on” photo day today and was very happy with some of my shots. Working with the 300mm lens we have is always good practice and I even started working with it on manual focus. I’m not confident enough to manually focus the whole game, but its coming along!
