12-0 Bentonville hosted 9-3 defending state champions Fayetteville Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. I though the game could go either way – a perfect season for the Tigers or a back-to-back state championship for the Purple’Dogs. Either would have been cool to see, but alas, only one could prevail. While Bentonville drew first blood, two interceptions in the second half helped Fayetteville to win the game. Congrats to Fayetteville for their 31-20 win.

I’m no runner. In fact, when I did track in 8th grade, I was so horrible I asked the coaches if they wouldn’t make me compete in the track meets. I think the only event I didn’t come in dead-last was a hurdles event that I came in second to last (barely) because a girl fell hard over one of the hurdles. Because of this, I have a high amount of respect for track and field competitors. I was very captivated by the movement of arms and legs during these events, especially in the “jumping” ones – high jump, triple jump, pole vault, etc. Pole vault was especially interesting to me because it looks so impossible and I cannot fathom how one learns (or has the courage) to throw themselves vertically in the air on a tiny pole and over another pole. Too scary for me!

I shot two games in the Northwest Arkansas Showcase yesterday. Both games were Bentonville boy’s game. The first was a semi-final game versus Springdale Har-Ber and the second was the championship game versus Bryant. Here are some of my favorites from both games.

I was assigned to shoot a feature photo Wednesday of the Bentonville High School drama department’s dress rehearsal of “Seussical” at the Arend Arts Center in Bentonville. Seussical is a musical based on the books of Dr. Seuss featuring many of his popular characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant and The Grinch. This was one of those assignments that was easy to overshoot and hard to walk away from. I prefer to approach anything to do with theater and stage from a behind-the-scenes perspective to give readers a look at things/moments they wouldn’t normally see. There was a lot of color and the students were animated and very into their roles. My only limit was this assignment came at the end of my shift, so I had less than an hour to work on it before I had to scoot. Here are a few of my favorites….
Seussical is open to the public and runs through Sunday at the Arend Arts Center. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
