As a recent transplant to northwest Arkansas, I have been surprised by all the new events and experiences I’ve encountered: SEC football; Bikes, Blues and BBQ; demolition derbys; high school athletics (in general); and a host of other events. Tonight was no exception.
The Demented Krewe hosted its 21st annual parade/bar crawl throughout downtown Fayetteville. Fayetteville Police kept parade walkers safe in the dark hours after 8pm (so if you saw a bunch of cops on Dickson St. it wasn’t a bad thing, it was just to keep everyone safe) as countless walkers in sequined suits, hats, and hair stopped passerbys and threw Mardi Gras beads at them in celebration of Fat Tuesday. The Billy Zydeco Band kept a lively sound in the group as well as announced the entrance of the parade to participating establishments.
I was nervous about shooting an event in minimal light. Not only would I have to use flash (which is for some reason notoriously unreliable for me…or perhaps its just user error), but auto-focusing wouldn’t be as reliable as it can be. Alas, I managed, and if it was not for deadline, I would have stayed out with the Krewe longer. This is definitely an event I hope to someday participate in.
