Tonight’s game was very physical. In fact, I realized tonight that soccer might be the most physical sport I shoot in terms of girls athletics. I think it makes for some interesting photos – images you can feel the intensity and determination of the player.

I’m no runner. In fact, when I did track in 8th grade, I was so horrible I asked the coaches if they wouldn’t make me compete in the track meets. I think the only event I didn’t come in dead-last was a hurdles event that I came in second to last (barely) because a girl fell hard over one of the hurdles. Because of this, I have a high amount of respect for track and field competitors. I was very captivated by the movement of arms and legs during these events, especially in the “jumping” ones – high jump, triple jump, pole vault, etc. Pole vault was especially interesting to me because it looks so impossible and I cannot fathom how one learns (or has the courage) to throw themselves vertically in the air on a tiny pole and over another pole. Too scary for me!

Both the boys and girls Rogers Heritage High School basketball teams dominated over Gentry High School during the season openers Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 in Gentry. What really stood out to me at the game though was the support for the teams by fellow Gentry High School classmates. Even though both teams were down, their fans never stopped cheering them on, which I think, makes a game much more enjoyable to be at.

I had the great pleasure and opportunity to check out the rehearsal for Thursday night’s Electrify Your Strings concert at Rogers High School. As a big music fan, especially of rock music and covers, I was very excited, and impressed, to see orchestra students busting out contemporary rock hits. I’m always impressed by the students at schools here in NWA and today’s shoot was no exception. These kids know how to play and it sounded really great!

I love in town rival games. There just seems to be so much more excitement in the air and the athletes push themselves to dive more, hit harder, and sweat more.

Rogers and Heritage’s boy’s soccer teams had a showdown at Mountie Stadium on Friday night. As of this posting the game had gone into overtime. This was the most action-packed 30 minutes of soccer I’ve shot in recent memory. I left with 10 minutes left in the first half after the light began to fade. If the game had started earlier I would’ve hung around to the end. It was that good of a soccer match. Here are some of my favorites from the short time I was there.
