Springdale at Har-Ber: Backboard Camera

Well, this took awhile to put together, but I was able to put up a camera behind the backboard at Wildcat Arena in Springdale. Unfortunately though, I could only stay for the first half of one game. It ended up being a good test run for where to place the camera and what kind of shots it can take. It was a little difficult to get good stills out of it, but it did provide an interesting perspective for video. I put together some clips from the first half of the game with the camera mounted on the Springdale Har-Ber basket.

Girls Bball: Har-Ber at Fayetteville

The girls game was physical tonight with several turnovers mid-court and lots of tumbles. The more aggressive the games are, the more exciting they are to shoot. Always keeps me on my toes (even though I’m sitting most of the time).

This was my first time shooting basketball in Fayetteville’s new gym and unfortunately I didn’t have two sync cords for my strobes. I thought the one may automatically slave to the master, but alas, it did not. Thankfully, the gym is pretty well lit, so the photos still turned out well.

Har-Ber at Rogers – Volleyball

Tuesday, the Lady Mounties hosted the Lady Wildcats at King Arena in Rogers. I think this was the first time I photographed volleyball in this gym and I only had one light (I like to work with two). I did my best to throw the light to the center of the ceiling as best I could to light both parts of the court. By doing this, I could photograph both courts from the north and east sides of the gym. From the south and west sides of the gym, I just had to be careful not to catch my light (mounted on the stands in the northeast corner).

Har-Ber Band Car Wash

Har-Ber Band Car Wash

As I was driving to work today, I zipped over quickly in order to check out what was going on the in the parking lot at Kmart. Usually when I see anything that is labeled “free,” I HAVE to check it out.

As it turns out, the Wildcat Band was having a car wash – but the cool part about the event was it wasn’t just Har-Ber doing the fundraiser. Seven different band programs throughout the district were collectively fundraising together to wash as least 1,000 cars. I thought this was cool because, first of all, that’s a lot of cars. Second, I felt the unification of the band programs to do it all together was a really cool kick to the story. So many times the schools are in competition, but this event showed that you could still compete (as the individual programs had to collect pledges on their own) but work together for the greater good (raising money to put towards music programs). I just hope the kids remembered to wear sun screen!

Har-Ber at Sprindale Baseball

Cross-town rival Springdale High School hosted Springdale Har-Ber High School Friday, May 4, 2012 at Tyson Sports Complex in Springdale.

Right off the bat (pun intended!), I noticed some aggressive base running by Springdale – there were some players who seemed to be instantly and permanently caked in a layer of dirt. The loose dirt made for some dramatic imagery too! A brief storm rolled by with thunder that delayed the game for about an hour, but it eventually passed and the players resumed play, this time with the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth.

I was definitely impressed by the offense of both teams. A number of players got some nice shots up the middle, dropping the ball in an unmanageable spot. I couldn’t stay for the finish, but it looked like Har-Ber was determined to take this game.

Har-Ber at Springdale Soccer

Har-Ber at Springdale Soccer

Another great cross-town rivalry double-header. If you have never been to a Har-Ber v. Springdale game, I encourage you to go – these kids never disappoint on the field or court, and the audience always make their presence known. Tonight the crowd was especially rambunctious with horns at the game. There were some amazing goals by the Springdale boys team I saw but, unfortunately, because my lens was so long (400), I was unable to get a shot of them.

Faytteville at Har-Ber baseball

I’m so excited its baseball season again! Partially because I grew up playing the game, and partially because I don’t have to worry about light as much as other sports because the games are played pretty early! It was a great game and I was sad I had to leave after the fourth inning.

I was having an “on” photo day today and was very happy with some of my shots. Working with the 300mm lens we have is always good practice and I even started working with it on manual focus. I’m not confident enough to manually focus the whole game, but its coming along!

Northwest Arkansas (Soccer) Showcase

I shot two games in the Northwest Arkansas Showcase yesterday. Both games were Bentonville boy’s game. The first was a semi-final game versus Springdale Har-Ber and the second was the championship game versus Bryant. Here are some of my favorites from both games.
